It has been almost 6 years since I moved to Currumbin and in that time I have never once managed to work on my own beach, except now I have done it twice in a week and for completely separate productions! Oddly enough the client in both situations was Red Bull.

My favourite Irish DP Colm Whelan was back with the Bulletin TV crew shooting 2 episodes of their show in Australia and it was great to catch up after 2 and a bit years since we did the reality series Model Scouts in Sydney. The only draw back being the hire company completely letting us down and failing to deliver any camera gear for the shoot day! Fortunately local shooter Lincoln Williams very generously helped out with a complete 5D setup and we got the job done in the end. The last shot taken as the sun dropped off the horizon!

A week later and I find myself back on Currumbin Beach shooting training sessions with Red Bull triathlete Courtney Atkinson this time using Helicam my favourite new toy in the world, a radio controlled chopper with a Canon 7D mounted underneath that captures incredible pictures that would be otherwise impossible to get. Unfortunately the Gold Coast weather only decided to show its brilliance once the cameras stopped rolling but I think we captured some great stuff. The guys from Milk Money Films also utilised Australia's only Phantom Flex camera to capture some 2000 FPS detail of Courtney training. I will put some links up when it is all completed and online, it should look amazing.

Back to Sydney for a couple of days next week but hoping to spend some more time in the warmth as I have started my training routine to get fit for another month in the jungle on the upcoming I'm a Celebrity get me out of here! which starts shooting early November, so local DPs I am all yours for a little while, give me a call or talk to Sam at RMK Crew to lock it in.
