(and no that was not due to my speed of progress!)
I have had the opportunity to work on some amazing projects, learn some really interesting things and meet wonderful, inspiring people from all over the world. It is no wonder I love my job.
First up I was involved in the tail end of shooting for a documentary on the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland and the catastrophic impact it had on airlines all over the world. I spent many hours at Sydney International terminal interviewing scholars, passengers and strategic people within the airline industry whose job it was to make decisions to keep people safe and as far as possible happy! Not a job I would have liked. Then I was whisked away to Canberra to shoot a Gok Wan show for Westfield. I have to admit I had not the faintest idea who Gok was - but the screaming mass of thousands of fans made me realise that I was obviously the one out of the loop. I worked with the people from TCO who were a joy and delight, knowing exactly what they were after and how to get it, plus we enjoyed a lovely lunch on the banks of Lake Ginninderra.
Finally I had the chance to work with the crew from Nutopia in the UK out here shooting a documentary on Sharks for Discovery Channel. We interviewed some amazing people in gorgeous locations and I heard incredible stories of survival and remarkably how most of these survivors have gone on to spend their lives in support of sharks as the awesome and admirable creatures that they are. I really look forward to seeing this project completed next year and airing on Discovery Channel's Shark Week, which coincidently I worked on and appeared in promos for last year.
One more day of mixing at Qantas then I am locked away in the car for 11 hours drive back home - hopefully just in time to arrive at the International Film College to deliver a 3 hour lecture on Audio Post Production for Film at 4pm!
Thanks everyone for the opportunities of the last few weeks, it served to reinforce my belief that I have one of the best jobs in the world and thanks to my agent Sam at RMK Crew for making sure I turn up at the right place on the right day to make it all happen.
As a post script to this story the picture above has been picked and featured up by the Professional Sound Services NYC website - the second time I have graced their pages!
PPS - it all flies by in a blur, I forgot to add that I had the chance to work in a Qantas A380, record some amazing music with Jim Pike, film segments for a History Channel doco on historical Sydney - thanks to Facebook and instant upload I have a pictorial record of my days to remind me of what I have done during the day!
