Of course I now realise that even though the unit came with more cables than I ever thought possible in one package - I still need a mini HDMI to HDMI to see the camera output in realtime. Then of course there is the custom hotshoe mount and an external power source for when I am outside extension lead distance of 240v, so this afternoon was spent scrolling through pages of ebay stores until I came up with the right combination.
I think the kit is complete now. I have lights, mics, mixer, recorder, a very cute monopod with tilt and pan head, tripod and of course the 550D itself. SD cards, SD card reader, I am about to have a stripped bare 17 inch Macbook Pro to download and view it all on when on location and a shiny gorgeous 27 inch iMac released last Tuesday to edit, compile and mix it all on.
Very exciting times, not only can I provide everything I need in location sound, I can now also shoot documentary/interview footage or provide B-roll with lighting, all in a very portable kit! Heading back to Cairns to shoot in a couple of weeks so I can test my packing and transporting skills then.
